Scenario 1  - Mogilev 23rd June 1944, has been completed, the support list for the Germans and Soviets will follow next, then scenario two.


Scenario 1 - German Defense of Mogilev 23rd June 1944

Historical Situation
The attack against Mogilev has been launched with the strategic objective to force the German XXXIX Panzer Corps to retire from the area, cutting off, destroying and/or capturing any straggling forces that become isolated in the village of Mogilev and the surrounding area.

On the morning of the 23rd June the Russians have opened their offensive with an intense artillery and rocket barrage followed by ferocious assaults by the Russian 49th Army. In response General Robert Martinek's XXXIX Panzer Corps have attempted to hold out but are pushed back leaving a holding force of German cobbled together units under Major-General von Erdmannsdorf with orders to hold the Village until the last man.
Soviet Mission Briefing
You are Lieutenant-Colonel Tarnavskiy, Commander of the spear head forces from the 23rd Guards Tank Brigade, Russian 49th Army. Your mission is to envelopment the village of Mogilev, cutting off the garrison from escape, while your main forces will enter the town from the northwest ceiling their fate.

Soviet Forces
The soviet forces will consist of 4 commands. Command 1 is set comprising of the HQ element of the 23rd Guards Brigade.
 
Command One HQ Formation.
1 x IS-2, Senior leader and a 4 man crew, Elite quality  
1 x T-34/85 with Junior leaders and 4-man crew of Elite Quality  
1 x SU-76 Tank Destroyer with Junior leaders and 3 man crew of Regular Quality
2 x T34/76 with Junior leaders and 4-man crew of Regular Quality  
HQ Command – Elite Quality
1 x Senior Leader with Pistol (Lieutenant-Colonel)
1 x Senior Leader with SMG (ADC)
2 x Junior NCO’s (one with standard one with an LMG)
1 x Willy jeep
1 x FOO two men willy jeep radio, 2 x missions, off-board Katyusha support 60% availability
HQ Platoon – Rated as Regular
1 x Junior Leader with SMG
LMG with two crew, six riflemen
 
Commands Two to Four
These commands are not set, they may be chosen as follows comprising the base formation as well as a 3D6 support roll.
·        Soviet Rifle Platoon
·        Soviet SMG Platoon
·        Soviet Tank Rider Platoon
·        Soviet Partisan Platoon
 
Russian Command Dice
You have five Command Dice for each Russian Command. However the first command (the HQ formation) has an additional bonus pool of four dice, which can be added to its command dice (one at a time) prior to throwing Command Dice in any one Phase. Once used the bonus Command Dice are discarded for the rest of the game. This represents the experienced and well trained leadership of this Russian formation.
 
German Mission Briefing
You are the last line and are tasked with holding the town of Mogilev or die doing so. There will be no withdrawal you will stop the Soviet advance right here, right now.
 
German Forces
The German holding forces will consist of two commands, with an additional small HQ element which can be attached to either command, bringing with it an additional command dice per turn. This unit may also allocate its command dice where needed without being attached to a command.

The two German commands will constitute a basic Panzer Grenadier Platoon with an additional 3D6 per command if a regular formation or 2D6 if an elite formation in support.
 
Additional to this there is 2D6 that can be spent of defense structures, this includes barbed wire, tank traps, bunkers, trenches etc. which can be deployed by the German commander as required to affect a rounded defensive strategy.
 
All Panzerfausts are Panzerfaust 60’s
 
Setting up
The German players begin the game by first by setting up 4 jump off points and one dummy jump off point within the confines of village of Mogilev and up to 18 inches from any perimeter house in any direction the German players wish.
 
The Russian players set up a total of 8 jump off points up to 12 inches in from the table edge, anywhere along the Northern edge of the playing area. Russian armour must enter on the road in the North or from any jump off point located within the forests located in the north west area of the playing field

 
Victory Conditions
The Russian players have 10-turns to form a cordon around the village, capturing the four buildings marked with red stars and defeating at least 4/5 of the German defending forces. The German player must avoid Russian victory conditions.

 
All German troops who’s Morale falls below 3 and cannot retreat are obligated to surrender.
